The North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry
A long-time client and a worthy cause
This month I’d thought I’d highlight one of my long-time translating clients: The North American Conference on Ethiopian Jewry, also known as NACOEJ.
NACOEJ was founded in 1982, with four professed goals:
To help Ethiopian Jews in Ethiopia.
To help Ethiopian Jews reach Israel.
To help ensure the equal and fair integration of the Ethiopian community into Israeli society.
To preserve the unique culture of the Jews of Ethiopia.
Of those four goals, I have been involved in number 3. NACOEJ quickly understood that the key to absorption into Israeli society starts with education. From the earliest stages of a child’s school experience to doctoral programs, NACOEJ is involved with supporting and making education accessible to members of the Ethiopian community.
From the Limudia programs in elementary schools, which provide education reinforcement in small groups, to the Adopt a Student scholarships for students in higher education, NACOEJ truly provides all-encompassing support.
